Rafnar Shipyard recently launched Leiftur, a third generation prototype of RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat), conceived, designed and constructed by Rafnar ehf. This 11 m craft has been designed to operate safely and comfortably in even the worst weather and sea conditions.
The Leiftur tactical RIB has been tested and developed in close co-operation with the Icelandic Coast Guard, which has carried out extensive and thorough sea trials by sailing the craft close to 3,000 nautical miles in Icelandic seas.
The performance has been impressive, especially in the way the craft handles the challenges of the North Atlantic Ocean. The specially designed OK Hull cuts through the sea and waves cleanly, resulting in improved sea-keeping and greater maneuverability, as well as a safer and more comfortable ride for the crew.
The hull design generates greater grip and traction at low speed and creates the ability to slice through sea and waves. The unique keel prevents drift and eliminates the typical bounce and slam experienced in conventional craft. This versatile craft is designed to perform in a variety of functions and roles with a multitude of capabilities, ideal as a Search and Rescue Craft, Coastal Patrol Vessel, Pilot Boat, multifunctional Work Boat, Press and Photography RIB for marine sporting events, and as a Superyacht Support Tender.
